Wyonegonic is a place to learn values and life skills that will help a child thrive in today’s world. This means assuming responsibilities in group living; it means making decisions and learning from successes and failures; it means challenging one’s self to try something new; it means discovering how much you can learn by hard work. Wyonegonic is not designed to give answers but to offer opportunities. A child has the freedom to be herself. Counselors are encouraged to help the girls develop their positive qualities and assist them as they develop confidence.

The Directors, Carol Sudduth and Steve Sudduth, remain in close contact with campers and staff. The Sudduths want to assure that camp is an ideal combination - a most enjoyable experience and one that provides growth and development. Carol Sudduth has owned and directed Wyonegonic since 1969; first with her late husband and since 1993 with Steve, oldest of three children. Carol is an ACA Certified Camp Director. Wyonegonic is now owned by the Sudduth Family.

There are 80 people working at Wyonegonic and the ratio of counselors to campers is 1:3. Cabin Counselors have a minimum of one year of college and about 75% of the staff are college age. The most important responsibility for a cabin Historical - Wyo Canoe Banner (Small)counselor is to be aware of each camper’s needs. Wyonegonic is fortunate to have a nucleus of counselors returning each year.

The atmosphere at Wyonegonic is relaxed and non-competitive. Beyond the formalized five instructional periods there is time to play informally with friends, be alone to read a book or simply absorb the beauty of Wyonegonic - the mountain, the lake, the tall pines. There are additional optional activities for those who need more structure and activity

Wyonegonic Philosophy

Camp spirit is built slowly from a sense of achievement, of developing responsibility, of being a necessary part of the worthwhile whole, of delight in the outdoor beauty and closeness to nature.

It is friendships with peers from approximately 30 different states and 20 foreign countries.

Above all, camp spirit is memories. Tales about trips, laughter with cabin mates; memories of traditions like Pine Grove and Evening Circle are all part of the experience.

Camp Spirit keeps campers coming back. Many girls return as counselors. It is the spirit that motivates alumnae, campers and their families to share with friends the JOYS and MAGIC of WYONEGONIC.
