Assistant Counselor Program
The Assistant Counselor Program is for girls entering senior year or recent high school graduates. It is limited to a maximum of nine girls. Interested applicants should have a background of camp activities and a desire to interact with campers and assisting counselors.
Fees: There is no cost for this program. An application is required.
Dates: June 30 - August 19, 2010 (Staff training starts June 23 and is encouraged)
Objective of the AC Program is to develop leadership in a “hands on” environment:
- Continue developing skills and teaching techniques
- To assist staff in teaching
- To learn responsibilities of cabin counseling by living with campers and assisting the cabin counselor if/when possible
- To update certification courses if necessary e.g. CPR, LGT
- To attend pre-camp training with counselors if high school exams allow
- To learn to evaluate self, others and the camp program
- To gain experience in planning special all-camp events
- To visit other camps
- To accomplish a Community Service Project
- To discuss and experience further
- Leadership qualities
- Behavioral characteristics of campers
- Philosophy of camping
- ACA Standards
- Health and safety practices
Program is to assist in activities and cabins under responsibility of the unit director; to meet with the LT Director three times a week:
- ACs assist on overnight trips
- ACs assist in daily teaching
- ACs plan and direct:
- All Camp Campfire
- Evening program
- Traditional Events
Living Arrangements:
- In Senior camp, ACs live in a platform tent. In Junior and Intermediate Camp, ACs live in camper cabins if space allows or alternative staff housing.
- ACs will live in 2 of the 3 units
- ACs eat meals with their assigned unit
- ACs will be credited with $50 on each day off per week (6 days off per summer) as a thank you for their assistance
