Assistant Counselor Program
The Assistant Counselor Program is for girls entering senior year or recent high school graduates. It is limited to a maximum of nine girls. Interested applicants should have a background of camp activities and a desire to interact with campers and assisting counselors.
Fees: There is no cost for this program. An application is required.
Dates: June 18 - August 14, 2008
Objective of the AC Program is to develop leadership in a “hands on” environment:
- Continue developing skills and teaching techniques
- To assist staff in teaching
- To learn responsibilities of cabin counseling by living with campers and assisting the cabin counselor
- To update certification courses if necessary e.g. CPR
- To attend pre-camp training with staff if high school calendar allow
- To learn to evaluate self, others and the camp program
- To gain experience in planning special all-camp events
- To visit other camps
- To discuss and experience further
- Leadership qualities
- Behavioral characteristics of campers
- Philosophy of camping
- ACA Standards
- Health and safety practices
Program is to assist in activities and cabins under responsibility of the unit director; to meet with the AC Director several times a week:
- ACs assist on trips
- ACs assist in daily teaching
- ACs plan and direct
- All camp campfire
- Evening program
- Traditional events
Living Arrangements:
- In Senior Camp ACs live in a platform tent.
- In Junior and Intermediate Camp, ACs live in cabins or tents with counselors and campers
- ACs will live in two of the three units
- ACs eat meals with their respective units
- ACs will be credited with $50 a week on their account for each week in the program as a thank you for their assistance
