Training Program

2005 CITs (Medium)This program is for girls entering their junior or senior year of high school. It is limited to a maximum of twelve. Candidates should be interested in improving skills, learning teaching methods, becoming part of a community and working with children.

Fees: $500 registration with application plus $5100 tuition for a total of $5600.

Dates: June 25 - August 12, 2008

Objectives of the CIT Program revolve around the skill building necessary to make the graduate a strong candidate for a future counseling position and a positive role model for children:

  • To learn teaching methods and prepare for teaching various camp activities
  • To sharpen communication skills
  • To prepare and execute the handling of special camp programs
  • To build a strong team
  • To enjoy the resident camp experience with other CITs.
  • To learn and appreciate individuals for their strengths and differences
  • To plan and execute a project with ACs

Program is diversified with focus on aquatic and outdoor activities:

  • Highly structured
  • Individual needs/skills will be taken into consideration
  • Certifications will be offered in:
    • SFA/CPR - first aid
    • Swimming - LGT and WSA
    • Canoeing - American Canoe Association
    • Outdoor Living - Maine Woodsman/JMG
    • Wilderness Ethics - Leave No Trace
  • Challenge/adventure/ropes - three days
  • Sailing - one week
  • Sail-boarding/water-skiing - one week
  • Tennis - three weeks
  • Riflery/archery - three days
  • Crafts/pottery - 3 days
  • Day hikes
  • Five day canoe trip
  • Planning and leading: Grove Service; Winona co-ed event; evening programs; special all camp program
  • Assisting counselors daily in one activity period for part of the summer

Living Arrangements:

  • CITs live in cabin tents on wooden platforms.
  • CITs eat meals with Senior campers
